Our feature for March 10 - "Beat the Devil" (1954)
"John Huston directs the legendary Humphrey Bogart in this tongue-in-cheek parody of spy films from the 1940s -- with a script written by the equally legendary Truman Capote. When their steamer goes belly up and strands them in Italy, four criminals (Robert Morley, Peter Lorre, Ivor Barnard and Marco Tulli) try to con a stranger (Bogart) into buying them land that's packed with uranium. Gina Lollobrigida and Jennifer Jones co-star." Synopsis from NetFlix.com

Dirty Dozen Brass Band
Friday, March 26, 2010 Doors open at 7:30 pm Concert begins at 8:30 pm General Admission tickets $20
Opening Band: Lingo
Not many bands outside of the Grateful Dead have an official day named after them, but the city of New Orleans has acknowledged the importance of the Dirty Dozen Brass Band’s (www.dirtydozenbrass.com) musical legacy enough to have bestowed the Dirty Dozen Brass Band Day upon them. And, much like the Grateful Dead, the DDBB is a touring machine. Over the course of their thirty year career, the band has played countless festivals in 30 different countries always bringing their blend of funky, dirty New Orleans soul to the dancing crowd. Having been guest artists on albums by the likes of David Bowie, Elvis Costello, Dr. John, and The Black Crowes, the DDBB is still mostly revered far and wide for their electrifying live shows. A driving horn section takes the listener to a place where strangers become friends and worries melt away.
If you were unable to make Mardi Gras or Jazz Fest, then this is a Friday night show not to be missed as we bring the New Orleans perspective to downtown Macon. Kicking off the night will be the Southern grooves of Lingo (www.lingomusic.net).

O Brother Where Art Thou Monday, March 29, 2010 Doors open at 6 pm / Movie at 7 pm
$5 admission $3 with student ID
George Clooney, John Turturro, and Tim Blake Nelson star as three escaped fugitives on the run in Mississippi. Their adventures through the barren landscape includes run-ins with a soothsayer, a trio of Sirens, a Bible-salesman Cyclops, as well as other archetypes from Southern folklore and pop-culture including a young blues musician, the Klan, and bank robber Baby Face Nelson. Soon they are caught up in a vicious gubernatorial campaign that would make Huey Long proud. The Coen brothers mix in a host of cinematic references in O BROTHER, including SULLIVAN'S TRAVELS, COOL HAND LUKE, I AM A FUGITIVE FROM A CHAIN GANG, and even dashes of the Three Stooges. The soundtrack is outstanding, playing in nearly every scene. Clooney displays an effervescent smile that is as intoxicating as the Coens' script is outrageous.

When mean old farmers Boggis, Bunce and Bean join forces to surround Mr. Fox and his family, they don’t realize they are not dealing with any old fox – it’s Fantastic Mr. Fox and he has a fantastic master plan to save the day!

The North Mississippi Allstars were founded in 1996; a product of a special time for modern Mississippi country blues. RL Burnside, Jr. Kimbrough, Otha Turner and their musical families were at their peak; making classic records and touring the world. Brothers Luther and Cody Dickinson soaked up the music of their father, Jim Dickinson, and absorbed the North Mississippi Blues legacy while playing and shaking it down at the juke joints with their blues ancestors. Luther (guitar and vocals) and Cody (drums and vocals) joined up with bassist Chris Chew to form the core of their own band, The North Mississippi Allstars. Through the filter of generations of Mississippi Blues men, the Allstars pioneered their own blues-infused rock and roll.
